и почему именно eaccelerator? ведь прямо в репозитории есть xcache и apc.

Мы в суровом продакшене используем XCache. На одиночных файлах он примерно равен eaccelerator. А при большом количестве мелких инклудов eaccelerator начинает заметно отставать.

А ещё у XCache есть симпатичный веб-интерфейс:)

Да, по бенчмаркам xCache примерно равен еакселератору.
Ну так вот получилось исторически, что он мне больше понравился)
