I found a bug with pppoe connection settings. Ununtu 8.10, desktop. I found the bug immediately after installation on the new PC.
Gnome has Network Manager application that are placed at the right top corner. It is supposed to connect me to the internet automatically or manual.
I tried to add new pppoe account and to edit it immediately after adding. Any changes was ignored by the system. As for me, I tried to change authorization settings. Nothing happened after submitting the form. I checked it on another fresh installation. The only way to save changes is removing an account and creating it from the scratch.
It was the bug. But this bug was not fatal, because knowing behaviour of the system that noticed above allowed me to set the configuration to appropriate state. (removing and creating the whole account instead of using edit function). One problem I have with pppoe was not solved at all. Connection to pppoe is not working but no any diagnostic messages was shown. I tried to combine all settings, but Ubuntu was the only OS where connection was not accepted by the system and finally established. I think it would be a good idea to log all activities of the system during connection. Unfortunately "tail -f /var/log/*" says nothing important to fix this problem. i think detailed logging would be very useful in situations like I have had.
Please, crosspost this to the developers.
