речь о том, чтобы файл натсроек иксов сохранить в отдельном месте и сделать скрипт который возвращает его на место такой какой надо при запуске системы.

Тот же ноут. Вот как делаю я. Заходиш в Приложения->Причие->Экран и графика. Если нет этого пункта то сделай его видимым в настройках меню. Во вкладке Графическая плата выбери intel 945, во вкладке Экран выбери LCD Panel 1280x800. Перезапусти иксы. Затем окрой файл xorg.conf и в твоём мониторе выстави нужное разрешение. После этого ребуни бук и радуйся. Делал так на разных релизах всё работает после этой правки на ура. Вот содержание моего xorg.conf:

А что, был ответ? Я спросил: как создать начальную конфигурацию, в ответ получил кучу обвинений в тупости и совершенно бессмысленных советов восстанавливать откуда-то из бэкапов.
