Geforce FX 5200 не могу разобраться с установкой драйверов/ Помогите

  давно хотел посмотреть что такое Linux
Посоветовали мне Ubuntu
Поставил
Но вот проблема Драйвер для видеокарты Geforce FX 5200.
читал мануал.
Делал как там написано.

Если у Вас видеокарта старше, чем GeForce 4, следует устанавливать пакет nvidia-glx-new вместо nvidia-glx
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Замените "nv" в Section "Device" на "nvidia"
sudo gedit /etc/X11/XvMCConfig
Вставьте эту строку в конфиг файл, чтобы указать видеоплеерам имя библиотеки XvMC:
libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1

после чего рестртанул Gnome.  и графическая оболочка не поднялась.
появилось меню в  котором выбрал "почти" свой монитор и почти свою видео карту.
Разрешение екрана держит но вот герцовка меня совсем не устраивает.
Под Windowsом 100Гц держит на 1024х768.
Хочеться чтобы и тут так было.
момогите мне пожалуйста.

если gnome то посмотри админисрирование-драйиверы


а если так не найдёшь, то с офф сайта скачай, работаютт тоже вродь

5200 поддерживает только определенная серия драйверов (номер щас не помню)
Что мешает поставить их через менеджер проприетарных драйверов? (См. Система - Администрирование)

я такие и поставил)
там написано
драйвер ускоренной графики NViDIA (для новых карт)/ но 5200 это уже не новая ей больше чем 4 года.
Меня не устраивает герцовка.

всё правильно, у вас же не прописаны modeline на 100 Гц
modeline рассчитывается утилитой gtf
gtf 1024 768 100
и копируете то, что она выдала в xorg.conf
modeline  "1024x768@100" вывод gtf

Затем в
SubSection "Display"
добавить
Modes      "1024x768@100"
